April 23, 2016 – He Makes All Things Beautiful

“All things work together for good to them that love God.” –Paul

Dewitt was a hard man. Most of his friends and business acquaintances knew him as a solid guy with a strong work ethic but his wife and children knew him as an abusive bully. His oldest son, Danny, dropped out of school and married at age seventeen to escape the oppression he lived in.

Danny wasn’t interested in children of his own for nearly thirteen years. After God saved him and touched his bitterness, he and his wife brought me and my sister into the world. Danny made a conscious decision to take everything his own dad was to him and be the opposite of it. The worst dad that I’ve ever been closely associated with inspired his son to be the best dad I’ve ever known.

What makes us really good at anything is to, at some point, be in close proximity with the bad version of it. Have you ever had an abusive parent, an unfaithful spouse, or an undependable friend? These are the very things that often make us better at not being one of those things. Adversity and disappointment has the potential of sculpting our lives into something beautiful. The key is to love God. Loving God is the only criteria for joining the supernatural club where all things work together for good.
