November 9 – One Sacrifice for Sins Forever

SACRIFICE is a positive & important human character trait and the one word is engraved in a slab of limestone.

The Old Testament high priest made his way into the holy place every single year to offer sacrifices for his sin and the sins of the people.  Such a procedure required holy consecration, strict accessibility and exact application of the lamb’s blood on the mercy seat.  When the blood was applied God was satisfied and then the entire process would occur again the following year.  Year after year, lamb after lamb, priest after priest, Passover after Passover would take place with the hope of reconciliation.

The totality of this event was a shadow of the great High Priest Who would come and settle the problem once and for all.  The Bible declares of Christ, “But this man, after he offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God” (Hebrews 10:12).  Don’t you love the way that reads? “One sacrifice for sins for ever.”

The high priest in the Old Testament had to offer countless, innumerable lambs, but Christ had to offer only One!  The high priest in the Old Testament had to offer countless, innumerable lambs every year, but Christ had to offer only one and offer it only one time!  Yes, it was one sacrifice for sins for ever.  The High Priest was also the Spotless Lamb and forever atoned for our sins on Calvary.
