May 2 – The Andrew Effect

He was originally a follower of John the Baptist. He was introduced to Jesus the day after the Lord’s baptism.  When he perceived that Jesus was the Christ, the Messiah of Israel, he immediately left John and began following the Lord.

Andrew was so overwhelmed with his discovery in Christ that he went and found his brother, Simon, and brought him to Jesus.  This seems to be the pattern of Andrew’s life: he was always bringing others to the Lord.  In John 6:1-14, Andrew brought the young lad with the fish and bread to Christ.  In John 12:20-22, Andrew brought the inquisitive Greeks to Christ to hear the gospel.  He was a connector of people, a conduit of grace.

Andrew’s name never topped the list of the disciples-but his brother’s did.  As a matter of fact, Andrew is introduced in Scripture as Peter’s brother, the very one he brought to Christ.  Recognition and position were not the pursuits of this meek man of God.  His desire was simply to point others to the Lord.  Through his ministry thousands were fed in the desert, the Greeks had the privilege of hearing the gospel, and 3000 souls came to faith in Christ on the day of Pentecost.  We may never know the effect Andrew had on countless lives, but God does, and to Andrew, that is all that matters.
