There have been countless martyrs throughout history who have honorably given their life for a just cause. Some for political advancements, some for social injustices, still others for religious ideology. What makes the death of Christ different from every other notable martyr in history is that Jesus was not dying for a cause – He was dying for a cure.

His death was not for religious advancement it was for redemptive atonement. He did not die to ignite a revolution; no, He died for reconciliation. He was bearing in His body the sins of humanity so that His Heavenly Father could justly bring His wrath against those sins without condemning the sinner to eternal hell.

An entire ocean of bull’s blood could not do for one man what one drop of the Lamb’s blood did for an entire ocean of man’s sin. And it was for this reason He laid down His life. To provide a cure for the condemnation of man’s soul. This was His plan before the foundation of the world. Christ was no mere martyr, He was the Messiah, He was God manifested in the flesh. He had the power to lay down His life, and equally, had the same power to take it back up. Those who have died for a good cause are dead still, yet our Savior is alive, and alive forevermore!
