Keep your face to the sunshine, and you cannot see the shadow.”            –Helen Keller

Jesus healed ten lepers one day on the outskirts of Samaria. These men were physically diseased, spiritually despondent, and socially dejected.  When they saw Christ, they begged for mercy.  Jesus, in His grace and compassion, commanded that they present themselves to the priest.  This was an act of faith on their part.  They were to head in the direction of the temple, believing and trusting they would be whole.

As they went their way, they were all cleansed.  Out of the ten, only one returned to give thanks and honor to the Lord. The Bible says, “And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God” (Luke 17:15).  One of them “turned back.”  This is the essence of gratitude: returning to the place where the blessing was given. Thankfulness is rooted in our acknowledgement of grace.  It is turning our hearts, minds, and sometimes our physical body back to the place where we met God.

Have you gone back recently? The other nine were so engrossed with having a religious experience at the temple that they failed to turn their appreciation to the One Who gave the healing. Take a few minutes today and return to the place where God healed your soul. Give Him the glory that is due His name.
