“The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.” –H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
Do you remember taking pop quizzes in school? You were supposed to carefully read the given text with the anticipation that an official test would be given in a few days. A pop quiz came intentionally unannounced. There was a reason for its name: It popped the joy out of the rest of your day. Its design was simple: It was to reveal if you had done the assignment or not; and to see how well you knew the subject.
The intention of the pop quiz was actually beneficial. It was a wakeup call to your understanding of that subject’s content. Suppose the Lord did a pop quiz on your spirituality today? Yes, one day we will all appear before the Judgment Seat of Christ. We will give an account for our lives; but suppose we had a few pop quizzes along the way? How well would you do?
Have you read your Bible lately? Have you spent time with God in prayer? Who was the last person you spoke with about Christ? Have you been faithfully going to church? Have you spoken poorly about someone recently? How is your worship? Your service? Your devotion? How well would you do if the Lord gave you an impromptu test today? The only way to pass such an exam is to make sure you do your homework.
