“Ye know in all your hearts…that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you…” –Joshua 23:14
As the serpent hid his devilish smile, he leaned close to Eve’s ear and whispered, “Ye shall not surely die. For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” He wasn’t just casting doubt on God’s words, he was bringing God’s character into question.
Notice how he phrased, “For God doth know.” As if God hadn’t already given Adam and Eve the very best, Satan casted doubt on God’s goodness by insinuating that He was withholding something from them. Satan often criticizes the reliability of God’s character to dishearten us and persuade us to give up.
How many times in our lives does God gloriously answer a prayer borne of desperation only for us to question His goodness years, sometimes only months, later. And in the middle of another trial, Satan leans close to our ear and whispers, “Does God even care?” “Is He listening?” “God answers prayers for other people; but for some reason, He rarely answers prayers for you.”
Every day is a battle of listening to Satan’s whispers or settling on the truth of God’s character. Resolve to absorb yourselves in God’s Word of truth today, before Satan whispers deception, tomorrow.
