“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts.” –Psalm 139:23
If you are willing to give your whole life to Christ it will require you doing so your whole life. Consider that statement again as I write it back out: If you are willing to give your whole life to Christ it will require you doing so your whole life. Two basic elements are at play in this truth. I call them “the totality” of your life, and “the entirety” of your life.
Giving your “whole life” to Christ is the act whereby you willingly and gladly surrender all aspects of who you are and what you do, to the Lordship of Jesus. In essence, you give Him all the keys to your spiritual house. You ask Him to set up His throne in every room. You do what He says, you live as He lives, and you become as He is. When I say your “whole” life, I mean the totality of your personhood must be submitted to His will and His glory.
We are to give Him our “whole life” our “whole life.” The “totality” of who we are must be given in “the entirety” of how long we are. The idea is this: Not only do we serve Him deep and wide, we also serve Him long and far. Unlike Demas, Paul’s unfaithful companion, we give no allegiance to worldly desires. Instead, we take our last breath in loyal fidelity to our King. We serve Him our whole life, with our whole life in totality and entirety!
