What a powerful statement John the Beloved made when he said, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1-2).  Our finite minds cannot fully grasp all the truth contained in those two verses.  We do know, however, that Christ is the Word of God, and the Word of God “was made flesh, and dwelt among us” (John 1:14).

The reality of Christ as the Word of God conveys the fact that He is full of grace and truth.  The Word of God is not only Who He is and what He is, it is also His name.  In the Revelation, John, once again saw Christ in this fashion.  Revelation 19:11-13 describes Christ sitting upon a white horse, making war in righteousness and judgment.  His eyes were as a flame of fire, there were many crowns on His head.  He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

Christ will execute judgment in Truth, from the Word, and as the Word.  Christ, as the Word, measures all of humanity as they are in light of Who He is.  The Word of God is the communicable reality of the thoughts of God.  Without the Word, we would not and could not understand God’s truth. God gave us the Word as the ultimate expression of the divine reality of Himself.
