The world has changed radically and rapidly since the dawn of the new millennium.  From technological advancements to terroristic assaults, we are living in an age of unprecedented change.  The believer, in this world, is faced with ongoing challenges and tribulations.  The world has never been a friend to the child of God.  On the contrary, the world is an enemy.  That is why we are instructed not to love the world, neither the things of this world.  Christ called us out of the world through the power of His Spirit, and then instructs us to go into the world to preach the Gospel.  The very world that we are called to reach, however, hates us.  The world, and its system despises God’s people.

Jesus understood this truth when He told His disciples, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Although the world opposes, assaults, and mocks the believer, it does so in defeated fashion.  Christ came into the world, lived and died within this world, and rose in victory from this world as Victor and Crowned King.  His promise to you and I who are still in this world is that we have victory and peace in the midst of our tribulation.  Yes, trouble is to be found in this world; but triumph resides and abides in Christ!
