October 3 – Faith and Obedience

Faith in action is manifested through a life of obedience.  It is true, faith does not operate by sight; however, those who see a person of faith will see that person acting in compliance with the Word of God.  Having faith means being a doer, not just a hearer of Holy Scripture.  It means yielding to the power of the Holy Spirit of God. A person of faith will say as Paul said, “Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an example” (Philippians 3:17).

Does your life yield such an offer to others?  Does your faith cry out to those around you with such bold and audacious words?  In essence, Paul was saying, “Look at my life, look at my decisions, my attitude, my demeanor, my words, my choices, and do as I do.”  Only someone who is passionately following Christ by faith can say to those around him, “Follow me.”

Faith is more than believing a few religious statements.  It is more than memorizing a doctrinal creed.  Faith is believing God in such a way that you comply to whatever He demands.  It is taking a cross because it is required.  It is dying to self because it is commanded.  It is yielding to the Spirit because the flesh is weak.  Be certain, the obedient life is one of faith, and the faithful life is one of obedience.
