“An honest man is honest from conviction of what is right, not from policy”– Robert E. Lee

During a routine surgery an ambitious nurse who was a candidate for leading the surgical nurse team was assisting the doctor.  When the surgeon finished the procedure he told the nurse to close the incision.  She counted the sponges and told the doctor, “You only removed seven sponges, we used eight.”

The doctor snapped back, “I removed them all, now close the incision.”  Respectfully the nurse replied, “Sir, I counted eight during the operation and there are only seven on the table.”  The surgeon said, “Nurse if you want your promotion you better close the incision, I will take full responsibility for the sponges.”  The nurse replied, “But Doctor, in good faith I cannot do that to our patient.”  The surgeon smiled and lifted his foot showing the eighth sponge to the nurse.  He said, “I think you’ll do, the nursing position is yours.”

We must do what is right regardless of the circumstance or consequence.  Character, morality, and honor are becoming lost virtues in these days; but the person who truly succeeds in life is the person who retains his convictions regardless of who approves or disapproves.  Whatever test you may endure today, honor God with your integrity and be certain-God will honor you.
