“If your faithfulness determined your usefulness, how useful would you be?”–Kenneth Kuykendall
There was a pastor who ran into one of his displaced church members in the marketplace. The pastor cordially greeted him and told him he had been missing his family at church. The reluctant parishioner said, “Well preacher, you know, there are a lot of reasons we’ve been missing lately. The wife has been sick, the kids have been busy with ball, the job has been working me to death, and all this rain, rain, rain.” The pastor responded by saying, “Well, there at the church it’s been dry, dry, dry.” The member sheepishly said, “Yeah, that’s another reason we’ve been missing so much!”
Being faithful to God’s house is not going above and beyond our call of duty; it is an obligation that we as believers should fulfill. We can come up with a hundred reasons to miss going to church but there is one overruling reason why we should always attend: Christ died for our sins.
If Christ went to Calvary to give His life, we should go faithfully to church to give our service. Do not allow the world, the calendar, the flesh, or the busyness of life to rob you and your family from faithful church attendance. The closer we get to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ the more we are instructed to be at His house!
