“O Love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong! It shall forevermore endure the saint’s and angel’s song.” –F.M. Lehman
As a pastor I try very hard to remember the names of our first-time guests at church. I can easily remember faces and can even connect how I know a particular person; but sometimes remembering their name is more difficult. There have been times when someone comes up to me and I simply cannot recall their name.
I am glad to know that my Heavenly Father doesn’t have that problem! There is never a moment when He forgets who I am, or what I am going through. He doesn’t have to ask someone else to remind Him what my name is. No, as a Good Shepherd He knows His sheep, all of His sheep, by name.
He not only knows my name, He knows me. He knows my nuances, my quirks, my idiosyncrasies. He is familiar with my habits, my schedule, and my moods. There is nothing within me that surprises Him.
What amazes me however is not that He knows my name, and He knows me; but knowing me, He still loves me! All my faults, failures, and fumbles- and yet He still loves me. He is mine, and I am His. What splendor and joy there is in knowing that the great big God of creation takes interest in me and personally calls me by name. I must be special.
