“Long-lasting victory can never be separated from a long-lasting stand on the foundation of the cross”– Watchman Nee
There was a period in Martin Luther’s life when he experienced a great depression. Day in and day out, Luther was discouraged and despondent about his life and his circumstances. One morning he awoke to find his wife Katherine dressed in black from head to toe.
Luther asked why she was dressed like she was going to a funeral. Katherine said, “Oh, you haven’t heard? God is dead.” Martin Luther was appalled by her statement and said, “Woman, that’s blasphemy!” to the which she replied, “Oh, I’m sorry, by the way you’ve been acting lately I just presumed that God had died.”
I do not know of a believer who would contend that God is dead; however, oftentimes we live that way. We oftentimes live without gladness or joy. To look upon the faces of some believers you would think their God is dead, their joy is gone, and their mansion in glory has foreclosed.
There is good news today! Heaven has not faded. The blood has not lost its power. The grave has not won. The Bible is still true. The Spirit is still our Comforter. And the cross is still worth the crown. In a world full of turmoil and tears there is one victorious truth to live by: God is not dead!
