Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth” – Jesus Christ

There was a gentleman years ago who told me the Christian life was not just difficult-it was impossible without the work of the Holy Spirit of God.  He proceeded to put an old baseball glove upon the table and explained that the glove had no inherent power in and of itself.  He said the glove may have a good quality design, a high-profile name, and be made from the best leather; but it would never be able to do anything by itself.  He then said, “You can hope and pray that it moves, but it will never move until something beyond the glove enters the situation.”

He then slipped his hand into the old catcher’s mitt and suddenly the movement of his hand became the movement of the glove.  I remember him saying, “The ability of the glove comes only from the ability of my hand.”  He proceeded to explain how the same is true in our lives.  We cannot live the Christian life apart from the working of the Holy Spirit.  Just as his hand controlled the movement of the glove, the Holy Spirit must control our lives.

Too often we try to work for God and live for God in the energy of the flesh. Living by character, integrity, and honesty is not enough; the very best of believers need the Spirit to control their life. You’ll be amazed at what He can do through your life once He is in your life.
