“Hindsight vision is a gift from God to enable and encourage us for change” –Kenneth Kuykendall
When we think of vision, we generally think in futuristic terms about futuristic plans. We look ahead, plan, strategize, and make efforts to facilitate the goals. However, in order to properly move ahead, we have to, from time to time, look back. We look back to evaluate, estimate, and change accordingly.
A.W. Tozer said it like this, “If we do not know where we have been, how in the world are we going to determine where we are going? That is the only reason for looking back. We do not look back in order to go back. Rather, we look back so that we can make sure we are going in the right direction.”
As you look ahead to the New Year, have you looked back? Have you traced your steps making notes of failures and mistakes? If not, I encourage you to assess the past twelve months. Examine your attitude, relationships, habits, and spiritual disciplines. Have you failed in some areas? If so, don’t hide your mistakes and shortcomings. Rather, present them to God, ask forgiveness, seek counsel, and make changes.
Hindsight vision is a gift from God to enable and encourage us for change. In the coming days, don’t forget to look back before you look ahead.
